Louis Petho

Louis C. Petho, Jr., 92, MAI, died Thursday, November 16, 2006. He was born March 20, 1914 in South Bend, IN to the late Louis, Sr. and Julia Petho. Louis married Yolanda Kish November 26, 1935; she preceded him in death April 3, 1989. Mr. Petho attended Lincoln, Grant and Port Huron High School and Port Huron Junior College and did additional studies at Lansing Community College, University of Toronto and University of Miami in Florida. After completing his studies at Port Huron Junior College he became associated with his father in private real estate investments until 1949. In 1949 he obtained his broker's license and formed the L.C. Petho Company for Real Estate and Appraising which operated until 1955. From 1955 to the present he has worked exclusively at appraising real property. From 1957 to 1958 he was division appraiser, Bureau of Public Records, Department of Commerce in Lansing. In 1957,Mr. Petho was rated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a real estate specialist and qualified as an expert witness in the Circuit Courts of many counties. He formed Mid West Appraisal Company in May, 1964. In 1996, his son succeeded him at Mid West Appraisal Co and he founded Eastern Michigan Appraisal Co. with his partner Candace Wittliff with which he was affiliated until about a year ago. He is survived by his daughters, Yolanda (Frank) Haynes and Karoleen "Dolly" (John) Gofton and his son, Louis C. (Ellen) Petho,III, all of Port Huron, eight grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren; his sister, Irene O'Brien of Port Huron; his brother Karol (Helen) Petho of Fort Gratiot and several nieces and nephews. Three great grandchildren preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Joseph Church. The Rev. Brian K. Cokonougher, Pastor, will officiate. Committal services will be private. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the church. Memorials in Mr. Petho's memory may be made to Mid City Nutrition Program or Peoples Clinic.
