V. N. Samuel, M.D. Fort Gratiot - Mourning the passing of Visuvasam Nathaniel Samuel, M.D., M.S. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 53 years Indira Samuel and five children, Devprakash Samuel M.D., Nalini Samuel M.D., Prabhu Samuel, Kalyan Samuel and Vijay Samuel M.D. and three grandchildren, Karunakar Samuel, Elijah Samuel and Sudhakar Samuel. Two brothers and one sister in India also survive. He was born on June 8th 1927 in Bangalore, India. He came to the United States in 1958 as a medical intern at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He became Board Certified in Neurology and EEG. He was recruited to Port Huron from his staff position at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit in 1980 as the community's first neurologist. Three of his five children became neurologists and he was joined in his practice by his son and daughter, Dr. Dev Samuel and Dr. Nalini Samuel. He retired in the year 2000. He was an alumnus of University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, University of Michigan and Mayo Clinic. He was a member of the American Medical Association, American Academy of Neurology and Michigan State Medical Society and St. Clair County Medical Society. He was a member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church, Troy, MI. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, courage and perseverance. Funeral Services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Stephens Episcopal Church, 5500 North Adams Road, Troy, MI 48098. Burial will be in White Chapel Cemetery, Troy Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M Wednesday the 20thof December, 2006 at Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and at St. Stephen Church beginning at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
