Doris Cole
June 6th, 1917 to March 8th, 2007
Doris M. Cole, age 89 of Port Huron went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 8, 2007 in her home following an extended illness. She was born on June 6, 1917 in Minden City and had been an area life long resident. Doris married Eugene F. Cole on June 12, 1948. He preceded her in death on February 29, 2000. Doris was a founding member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She was formerly employed at Chrysler Corp, the catalog department at Montgomery Ward and Mueller Brass Company. She belonged to the Cooperative Extension for many years and was an Avon representative in the President's Club for 18 years. Doris was a kind and generous person who made hand sewn quilts for unwed mothers. She loved gardening and taking care of her flowers. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her son, Alvin J. (Janet) VanBuskirk of Marysville; daughter, Barbara G. (Kenneth) Hall of Phoenix, Az; daughter, Cheryl L. (Steven) Keef of Port Huron; son, Gene P. (Cheryl) Cole of Carsonville; daughter Melinda J. (Larry) Peyerk of Port Huron; 19 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; twin-sister, Dorothy Capps of Port Huron; brother, Elmer (Joanne) Walsh of Clinton Tenn; sister, Jean (Jim) Lewandowski of Port Hope and step-daughter, Carol Sue Placido of Texas. Doris was preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Elva (Sopha) Walsh, son John Gary VanBuskirk, December 13, 2003 and sisters, Betty Marshall, Viola Smith, Patricia Severen, and Cathleen Guitar. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Mary's Catholic Church. The Rev. Simeon T. Iber, Pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. today in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and 9 a.m. Saturday at the church. A scripture service will be held at 7 p.m. this evening. Her grandsons will serve as her pallbearers. Memorials in memory of Doris, may be given to Blue Water Hospice.
