Dorothy Smarch
July 28th, 1923 to April 13th, 2007
Dorothy Virginia Smarch, 83, passed away Friday, April 13, 2007 in her home following a long illness. She was born July 28, 1923 in Port Huron, daughter of the late Harry and Alice Walker and has been a life long area resident. Dorothy married Chester W. Smarch on November 22, 1941 in St. Christopher's Catholic Church. They were married for 46 years until his death on July 31, 1988. During many years of employment, Dorothy worked at Chrysler Corporation in Marysville, Industrial Printing in Richmond and Prestolite Wire Co in Port Huron. She then followed a dream of hers returning to school and received her LPN certificate from SC4 at the age of 56. She then worked at Mt. Clemens General Hospital and later retired from Marwood Nursing and Rehab at the age of 71. She was involved in euchre and canasta clubs for many years and enjoyed crafts, painting, crocheting and spending time with her family and friends. Dorothy is survived by her children, Roger (Fran) Smarch of Port Huron and Beverly (Roy) Piper of Marysville. Grandchildren, Bonnie (Duke) Dunn, Kimberly (Ange) Guzzo, Roger (Patty) Smarch, Jason (Megan) Smarch, Jeremy Smarch, Tom (Tina) Smarch, Todd (Tina) Smarch, Lori (Bill) Branch, Traci Brown, Ryan Brown, Alesha Mason, 12 great grandchildren, her sister Hazel Spangenberg of Smiths Creek, several nieces and nephews and many close friends and neighbors especially Vera McDonald and June Ward.. She was preceded in death by her son Thomas Smarch on August 3, 2005 and 6 brothers and 4 sisters. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Christopher's Catholic Church. The Rev. Arthur R. Baranowski, Pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Riverlawn Cemetery, Marysville. Visiting hours are 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and 10 a.m. Monday at the church. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Roger M. Smarch, Tom Smarch. Todd Smarch, Ryan Brown, Jason Smarch and Jeremy Smarch. Memorials in memory of Dorothy may be given to The Charity Of The Donor's Choice.
