James Mathews

James Allen Mathews, Sr 85, of Jeddo, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 23, 2007 in Mercy Hospital. He was born May 5, 1921 to the late Ella Mathews and Charles Mathews. On July 11, 1942 he married his high school sweetheart Marguerite Carrier and has been married for 64 years. As a young man he served in the U.S. Navy from December of 1943 to December of 1945. He was an electrician with I.B.E.W. Local 58 for 60 years. He retired from Rutkoske-Neal Electric. He was president of the Salvation Army Golden Agers for 15 years and vice-president for 5 years. Jim was very active for 15 years in Fort Gratiot Little League and was cub master for 15 years, scout master for 5 years with Troop #106. Jim is survived by his loving and faithful wife of 64 years; sons, James (Connie) Mathews, Charles (Barb) Mathews, Edward (Mary) Mathews, John (Lorie) Mathews, a very special grandson Richard P. Mathews, 11 other grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Sister, Helen (Harvey) Kirkendall of Port Huron and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son Richard P. Mathews; sister, Mary Jane Pond; two brothers, Jack Mathews and Charles "Bud" Mathews; Funeral services are 10 am Friday in St. Edward On-The-Lake Catholic Church. The Rev. Joseph M. Esper, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery with military honors under direction of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council. Visiting hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm Wednesday and Thursday in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and 9 a.m Friday at the church. A military memorial service will be held at 8 pm.Thursday evening. Pallbearers are James C. Mathews, Michael Mathews, Andy Mathews, Lance Mathews, Edward Mathews, Jr, Richard P. Mathews and Joseph Mathews. Honorary pallbearers are Julie Stanko, Lisa DeLacey, Angie Mathews, Jenny Fox and Alissa Mathews. Memorials may be given to the Salvation Army Golden Agers.
