LaVern Marx

LaVern E. Marx, 90, of Port Huron died July 9, 2007 following an extended illness. He was born March 21, 1917 in Port Huron and has lived here all his life. LaVern married Helen Henn on July 20, 1942 in Brown City. He was a 1936 graduate of St. Stephen High School. LaVern served in the U.S. Army during W.W.II as a Sergeant in the Signal Corp. in England, France and Germany. He worked as a supervisor at Chrysler Corporation, Ainsworth, and Prestolite before retiring from Marx Agency which he owned and operated. LaVern is survived by his wife, Helen of Port Huron; sons, Gary (Mary Anne) of Highland, MI, Richard (Pamela) of Fort Wayne, IN and Dennis (Deborah) of Port Huron; grandchildren, Shannon and Steven Marx of Highland, Christine (Kevin) Espeset of Minneapolis, MN, Deanna Marx of Chicago, Brian and John Marx of Fort Wayne, IN and Heather (Richard) Whitford of Grofton, MD. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Lena (Judge) Marx and his brother David Marx. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Friday in St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Rev. Brian K. Cokonougher, Pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery with military honors under auspices of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council. Visitations will be 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and 9:30 a.m. Friday at the church. A rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. Thursday. Memorials may be given to Blue Water Hospice.
