William Rankin
March 13th, 1922 to July 18th, 2007
William James "Bill" Rankin, 85, of Port Huron Township, passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2007. Bill was born in Croswell March 13, 1922, son of the late James and Catherine (Benedict) Rankin. He moved to Port Huron in the 1940's and resided there for 65 years. He married the former Mary M. Carpenter February 12, 1942 in Port Huron. Bill owned and operated Rankin and Carpenter Quality Meats for 25 years retiring in 1985. He served honorably in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Elks, Moose, American Legion and the V.F.W. He enjoyed gardening, traveling, bowling and golfing. Bill is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary of Port Huron Township; his sons, William of Sebring, FL, James (Ruth), Gerald (Betty) and Robert (Susan) Rankin, all of Port Huron and Thomas (Gyla) Rankin of Smiths Creek; 14 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; brothers, Jack (Valerie) of Imlay City and Donald (Sue) Rankin of Croswell; sister-in-law, Betty Rankin of Imlay City and brother-in-law, Bob (Joy) Carpenter of Sebring, FL. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Carl and Ted Rankin and his sisters, Lucille Herriman and Hilda Johnston. A memorial service for Bill will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home with the Rev. Brian K. Cokonougher, pastor of St. Stephen Church officiating. Visiting will begin at 10:00 a.m. Monday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Blue Water Hospice are suggested.
