Edward 'Ted' Kearns

Edward W. "Ted" Kearns, Sr, 85, of Port Huron, died Monday, September 24, 2007 in Port Huron Hospital. Ted was born February 23, 1922 in Port Huron, son of the late Thomas J. And Mary Ryan Kearns, and was a life long resident. He married the former Elizabeth J. "Betty" Ricketts September 4, 1943 in Port Huron. She preceded him in death September 13, 2006. Ted was a graduate of St. Stephen High School. Together with his wife, Betty, he founded Kearns Agency where he was involved until his death. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Army Air Corps. He was a founding member of St. Mary Church, member of Port Huron Golf Club, B.P.O.E. #343, L.O.O.M. #158, Charles Hammond Post #8, American Legion, the American Legion Dance Club, Council #521, Knights of Columbus and past president of the Breakfast Optimists. His professional memberships included the Eastern Thumb Association of Realtors and the Independent Insurance Agents of Michigan. Ted was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather; his family was his life. He is survived by his daughter, Carolyn (Bill) Bonnaci of Port Huron; sons, Dennis (Ceci) of Port Huron, Larry (Carla) of Jensen Beach, FL, Steve and Ted (Linda) Kearns, Jr. both of Port Huron; daughter, Maureen (Sandy) MacCallum of Ft. Gratiot; sons, Mark (Kelli) of Marysville and Tim (Jeanette) Kearns of Port Huron and daughter, Jackie (Ron) Mackensen of Port Huron; his grandchildren, Debbie (Mike) Reynolds, Joseph Bonnaci, Denise (Mark) Richard, Christine (Jayson Grossman, Cheryl (Kevin) Stein, Bob (Annmarie) Kearns, Heather (Joe) Shimmel, Tiffany Kearns, Raechel (Eric) Witter, Danielle (Don) Truscott, Matthew Kearns, Ashley, Cassie and Colleen MacCallum, Eric and Geofrey Kearns, Tara Cuthbertson, Emily Kearns and Ronnie and Tommy Mackensen; 14 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Shirley Kearns of Port Huron and several nieces and nephews. Ted was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary, Margaret Letzgus and Kate Brogan; his brothers, Bob, Tom, Bill, Jack and Al Kearns; his daughter-in-law, Theresa Kearns and his grandson, Jeremy Mackensen. Ted's funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday in St. Mary Church. The Reverend Simeon T. Iber, Pastor, will preside. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery with Military rites under direction of St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council. Pallbearers will be Joe Bonnaci, Bob, Matt, Eric and Geof Kearns and Ronnie Mackensen. Visiting hours for Ted are 7 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4:00 and 7 to 9:00 p.m. Thursday in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and 9:00 a.m. Friday at the church. The Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Thursday. Memorials in Ted's memory may be made to St. Mary's Academy, Port Huron or The Betty Kearns "Little Black Dress" Fund Raiser for Breast Cancer Awareness.
