Irvin H. Claseman, 89, of Port Huron, died Saturday, September 29, 2007 in his home with his family by his side. He was born September 1, 1918 in Clinton, Iowa and has lived in Port Huron since 1962. Irv received a bachelor and masters degree from Purdue University where he pitched for the Baseball team and is a lifetime member of Purdue's "P" Men's Athletic Club. He Served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. Irv married Marilyn Butz May 28, 1945 in Lafayette, IN. Irv Claseman was first and foremost a teacher. He was coach and Athletic Director as Cass City High School from 1947 to 1962 and became coach and Athletic Director at Port Huron Catholic from 1962 to 1971. He taught and coached at Port Huron Central and then at Port Huron Northern until his retirement. "Coach Claseman" was inducted into the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame in 1990 and was also a member of the Port Huron Sports Hall of Fame. He loved sports whether he was playing, coaching or watching them. In his retirement years, Irv enjoyed walking at the Mall with his friends, watching sports and spending time with his grandson. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Irv always said he had a good life. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marilyn; his daughter, Judy Claseman of St. Clair Shores; son, Tim Claseman of Corpus Christi, TX; grandson Ben Claseman of St. Clair Shores and his sister, Nadine (Ray) Krogman of Clinton Iowa. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Cyril, Francis and Roger and his sister, Diane. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph Church. The Rev. Brian Cokonougher, pastor, will preside. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Visitation is 2 to 4:00 and 6 to 9:00 p.m. Monday in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. A Scripture Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Memorials in his memory may be made to the Irvin H. Claseman Scholarship Fund for a deserving college student athlete.
