Eugene Gleason
November 30th, 1919 to February 3rd, 2008
Eugene T. (Gene) Gleason, a longtime resident of Port Huron, passed away Sunday, February 03, 2008, at Cambrian Assisted Living, in Tecumseh, Michigan. Born November 30, in 1919 in Melvin, Michigan, he married Eleanor Molisak of Sarnia on September 26, 1942. She preceded him in death on July 25, 1985. A graduate of St. Stephens High School in 1937, Gene served with the US Army during World War II rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant. After his military service he returned to Port Huron and opened his own dry cleaning business which he operated for many years. In 1962 he entered the US Customs service, retiring after twenty years in 1982. During his life time he was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Elks Lodge, and one of the founding members of the St. Stephens Athletic Association known as the Dirty Six. In later life he served as chairman of the St. Clair County Building Authority, and on the Board for the St. Clair County Council on Aging. He is survived by his sister Mary Leahy of Port Huron, one son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Cheri Gleason of Clinton, Michigan; a daughter Mary Karen Gleason of California, a daughter Teri Gleason of Anchorage Alaska; three grandsons Cody (Ashton), Kyle and Luke Gleason of Clinton Michigan; great-grandson Caleb and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday in St. Mary's Catholic Church. The Rev. Simeon T. Iber will officiate. Interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery with military honors under auspices of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council. Visiting hours will be 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made in his name to the American Lung Association or Hospice of Lenawee.
