Robert Weed

Robert H. Weed Fort Gratiot - Robert H. Weed, 85, died Monday, February 25, 2008 at Regency on the Lake in Ft. Gratiot. He was born January 4, 1923 in Chicago, Illinois. Mr Weed served in the U.S. Army during WWII as part of the Persian Gulf Command. After being discharged, he returned to attend Michigan State University, where he graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Police Administration. During the Korean War, he spent two years with the Military Police Corps Detachment in Georgia. In 1952, he joined the Chicago Field Office of the U.S. Secret Service. He was sent to Washington, D.C. to guard President Eisenhower. In 1956 he was transferred to the Springfield, Illinois Field Office where he spent the remainder of his career with the Secret Service until his retirement in 1976. During his time with the Secret Service, he guarded every president from Dwight Eisenhower to Ronald Reagan. After his retirement from the Secret Service, Mr. Weed joined the State of Illinois Department of Law Enforcement, Office of Internal Investigation until he retired in 1986. Mr. Weed was a life member of the Chiefs of Police, and a member of the Illinois Police Association, the Association of Former Agents of the U.S. Secret Service and of St. Edwards Catholic Church in Lakeport, MI. He also served two terms as National Commander of the Persian Gulf Command Veterans Association. He is survived by his wife, Jean Schultz Weed of Ft. Gratiot; son, Robert B. Weed of Springfield, IL; daughter, Paula M. (Stephan) Kaplan of Springfield, IL; sons, Richard J. (Roxie) Weed of Denver, CO and Christopher M. (Diane) Weed of Lakewood CO; daughter, Monica M. Weed of Chicago, IL; son Andrew J. (Emma) Weed of Ft. Gratiot; sons Edward M. Wuthrich of Columbus, OH and Paul D. (Alicea) Wuthrich of Mishawaka, IN; daughters, Cindy M. (Vance) Harris of Fisher, IN and Peggy Jean Wuthrich of Campbellsport, WI; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister-in-law Kay Weed of Blountstown, FL and a niece and nephew. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. The Rev. Joseph M. Esper, Pastor of St. Edwards Church will officiate.
