Martha E Stanlake

Martha “Ellie” Stanlake, 96, of Port Huron, died Tuesday, December 2, 2014 in Fort Gratiot.

She was born April 10, 1918 in Port Huron to the late Charles and Georgianna Veen. She was married to George Stanlake. He preceded her in death on April 28, 2002.

In her younger years, Martha was very active in St. Anne’s Altar Society and helped with all the dinners at St. Stephen Catholic Church.

Martha enjoyed bowling in the ladies league in Port Huron and loved watching the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Pistons, the birds and squirrels in her yard and everything to do with family and grandchildren.

She is survived by daughter, Mary Simeone; son, William (Joan) Stanlake; grandchildren, John, Paul and Christina Simeone of Brampton, Ontario, Matthew Gonzalez and Anna Stanlake of Port Huron; great grandson, Nolan Measel; sister-in-law, Viola Veen of Newark, Delaware; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George; brothers, Bill, John, Frank, Charles, and Mike; and sisters, Mary and Margaret; son-in-law, Bruno Simeone; and daughter-in-law, Karen Stanlake.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, December 4, 2014 in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home, with visitation from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. prior in the funeral home. Deacon Dennis Crimmins will officiate.

Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
