Everine L. "Renie" Shannon
March 12th, 1952 to April 26th, 2015
Everine L. “Renie” Smith-Shannon, 63, of Fort Gratiot, passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2015 at the MediLodge of Port Huron.
She was born on March 12, 1952 in Port Huron to the late Gerald E. and Vivian L. (Leslie) Smith. Renie was a member of the 1970 Port Huron Catholic High School graduating class.
After 21 years of being a stay-at-home mother, Renie pursued her dreams of becoming a nurse. In 1991 that dream came true when she graduated from the SC4 Nursing Program, after which she worked for many years at local health care facilities before retiring from Concerned Home Care in 2005. Since then she has been focused on being the best mom and grandmother that a person can be.
Renie dedicated her life to raising her children and grandchildren. For years you could find her roaming the soccer fields throughout town or bundled up at the McMorran Arena supporting her boys at the rink. One of her biggest enjoyments in life was to watch the sunrise and sunset, especially in Port Austin. Renie has always been an avid lover of animals. Bruiser, her cherished Chihuahua, was her trusty companion that never left her side.
She is survived by her five sons, Greg (Danielle) Shannon of Port Huron, Tim Shannon of Port Huron, Dennis (Lisa) Shannon of St. Clair Shores, Danny Shannon of Marysville and Matt Shannon of Charleston, SC; eight grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Vicki Smith of Cookeville , TN, Janet Smith of Port Huron, Mary-Jo Smith of Port Huron; Aunt, Everine Unger of Juno Beach, FL.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Craig, Leslie and Robert Smith.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 29, 2015 in St. Mary Catholic Church. The Reverend Zbigniew Zomerfeld will officiate.
Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, 2015 in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. A Rosary will be recited at 8:00 p.m. immediately following the visitation Tuesday evening.
Memorials may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church or Blue Water Humane Society.
