Ronald F. Olson born March 2, 1928 died unexpectedly on August 31, 2010.
Ronald married the love of his life Gloria L. Thomas on April 25, 1958 in Port Huron.
Ron proudly served in U.S.M.C. during W.W. II as a PFC. He tended bar at the Brass Rail and retired from Midwest Metal. Ron was an avid sports fan especially the University of Michigan. No distance was too far to drive to watch his nephews and niece play football, soccer or tennis. Ron was a staple at the hockey arena, where he was known as the team grandpa cheering on his beloved grandson. Not only did Ron attend every game but he never missed a practice. How he loved watching Leo skate. If there wasn't a game to attend he was watching sports on television with his grandson. Ron was a member of American Legion Charles Hammond Post#8, B.P.O.E #343 and was top salesman for St. Jude. Ron was a great man who will be sadly missed by all.
Ron is survived by his beloved wife, Gloria; son, Russell Mater; daughter, Lisa Olson-Tramski; grandchildren, Stephanie Heitpas, Jaclyn Bethke, Leo King and four great-grandchildren; brother, Mickey (Joyce) Olson; brothers-in-law, Peter (Donna) Thomas, Gregory (Harriet) Thomas and David (Donna) Thomas; sister-in-law Toni Olson and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Ruth (Nimitz) Olson and brother Richard Olson.
Mass of Resurrection will be 10 am Saturday in St. Mary's Catholic Church. The Rev. Zbigniew Zomerfeld will officiate. Military honors will follow under auspices of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council.
Visiting hours are 2-8 pm Friday in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and 9 am Saturday at the church.
Pallbearers will be Leo King, Jr, Spenser Vasbinder, David F. Thomas, Dustin Thomas, Leo King, Sr, David B. Thomas, Gregory Thomas and Jamie Vasbinder.
Memorials in memory of Ron may be given to the Charity of The Donor's Choice.
