Glenn E. Smith

March 16th, 1947 to September 21st, 2010
Glenn Smith, 63, passed away peacefully after a courageous eight year battle with prostate cancer.

Glenn was born March 16, 1947 in Kane, PA son of the late Glenn and Louise Smith. He married his college sweetheart, Martha L. Coudriet on August 23, 1969 in Kane, PA. Before his retirement in 2001, Glenn had a rich career as a teacher for 32 years in the Port Huron Area School District. He was devoted to his beloved wife, Martha, his family and friends, his community, and his church. Glenn was a member of the Caseville, MI., Eagles(FOE 3690), the VFW of Kane, PA., and Lector at St. Stephen's Church. For Glenn, learning was a life-long pursuit which he thoroughly enjoyed, whether through reading or poring over maps of places near and far. His love of the outdoors and adventurous travel led to his enjoyment of camping and unique trips with his wife such as hiking Inn to Inn nomad like through Vermont, a buffalo roundup in South Dakota, and a bicycle trip in Alaska. Glenn loved to cook. To hone his culinary skills, he took several classes with Master Chef, Jeff Gabriel, at the Farm Restaurant in Port Austin, MI. Friends and family often delighted in the fruits of his labors. Glenn especially loved doing the grocery shopping as it was always a social experience for him. In 2001, the building of a cabin from the ground up in northwestern Pennsylvania was viewed as a major accomplishment. The construction was a labor of love shared with Mark, his much loved brother-in-law. Glenn loved the property in the land of his roots, the peace and solitude of the woods, and just being "at camp". Glenn is remembered by colleagues and friends for his dedication, his sense of humor, his ready smile and deep infectious laugh. Glenn was always caring and compassionate, a gentleman in every sense of the word. Despite the pain and fatigue of his last weeks, Glenn continued to ask his wife, Martha, daily: "Is there anything I can do for you today?" Glenn is survived by his wife of 41 years, Martha; sisters, Beverly (Jerry) Beane and Glenda Buonanducci of Kane, PA: brothers-in-law, Mark (Mary) Coudriet and Hugh (Linda) Coudriet of Kane, PA; sister-in-law, Celeste (Steve) Emmick of Morrison, CO; niece, Jackie Buonanducci and nephews, Bradley Coudriet, Dustin Beane and Glenn Buonanducci and fiancee Rachel Burnham. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends and his buddy, Coyote, the cat. Visiting hours will be at the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. Memorial Mass will be 10am Saturday at St. Stephen's Church. The Rev. Brian K. Cokonougher will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Blue Water Hospice Building Fund or the Rev. Simeon Iber's Community Service Fund in Nigeria to provide education programs for women and youth.. Glenn's family wishes to thank his oncologists: Dr. Lal, Blue Water Oncology and Dr. Vaishampayon, Karmanos Weisberg Center, Farmington Hills, and all the exceptional health care providers who helped Glenn maintain quality of life for many years.
