James A Nevison
James Anthony Nevison, 77, of Fort Gratiot, passed away June 10, 2018 in his home.
He was born August 1, 1940 in Detroit Michigan to Frank and Rose (Aiello) Nevison. He attended Shrine of the Little Flower High School in Royal Oak, Michigan and then joined the United States Air Force in 1959. He retired from the Air Force as a Master Sergeant in 1979. While in the U.S. Air Force James served as a Security Policeman, Combative Measures Instructor, Drill Instructor, Athletic Trainer and assisted with the U.S. Olympic Judo Team.
In retirement James crisscrossed the United Stated visiting various military bases and volunteered countless hours helping disabled/injured veterans using aquatic rehabilitation via Hydrotone. James was also a supporter of the Veteran Children’s Home in Grand Rapids, MI and contributed generously to that cause.
James enjoyed running (5Ks and Half Marathons), biking, traveling, Ham Radio, “old School” country music, Christian music and his “granddogs” Riley and Piper.
James was a doting grandfather and cherished each and every one of his grandchildren. James was known for his sense of humor and love of country, family and fellow veteran.
He married Joyce Ford on March 2, 1963. They had four children James (Kristin) Nevison of Port Huron, Michigan, Kevin (Kelly) Nevison of Dewitt, Michigan, Steven (Amy) Nevison of Huron, Ohio, and Heather Montagna of Mesa Arizona.
James is survived by a brother Frank Nevison; his children and their spouses; 12 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents, his wife Joyce, and his brother Tom.
Graveside memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 1, 2018 at Allied Veterans Columbarium. The Rev. Josh Sabo will officiate.
Military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Air Force and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
