Richard A. "Shorty" Milburn

August 9th, 1930 to August 24th, 2025

Richard Andrew “Shorty” Milburn, 95, of Port Huron, died Sunday, August 24, 2025.

He was born August 19, 1930 in Pontiac to the late Jack and Thea Milburn. He married Ann Marie Peltier on May 18, 1973 in Marine City.

Shorty enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1950, served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars, and was honorably discharged after 21 years. Following his service, he was employed as a pipefitter with Mueller Brass, retiring after 24 years and then spent 10 years with the Selfridge Air National Guard Base Exchange. Shorty’s passion was Boy Scouts. He served as a Scoutmaster and Cubmaster, leading troops in the Port Huron area, Canada and Taiwan. He was a District Commissioner with the Blue Water Council for many years and represented the Blue Water Council as an instructor at the College of Commissioner Science. He also led his scout troops to march in the Memorial Day parade and participated at the ceremony at Pine Grove Park. Shorty received numerous awards for scouting including the Silver Beaver Award, Boy Scout Wood Badge award and Vigil Honor Order of the Arrow. Shorty dedicated his life to serving others, volunteering with Port Huron Hospital, handing out stuffed animals to children and delivering mail. He also volunteered at Mercy Hospital, the Salvation Army and the Boy Scouts food drive for many years. He was a member at St. Mary Catholic Church where he served on the parish council and was a eucharistic minister. Shorty was also a member of the V.F.W., American Legion, D.A.V., AMVETS, Lions Club, Exchange Club and volunteered as a diver with the Oakland County Sheriff’s office.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ann; nieces, Jennifer, Julie and Lisa; nephew, Jeff; sister-in-law, Doris Milburn; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Alice and Robert Therrett. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald; and an infant sister.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, August 31, 2025 in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 1, 2025 in St. Mary Catholic Church with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. The Reverend Zbigniew Zomerfeld will officiate. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Air Force and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.

Inurnment will be in the Allied Veterans Cemetery Columbarium.
