John Gofton

John R. Gofton, 87, of Port Huron, passed away on Sunday, July 5, 2026 at Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, after a short battle with melanoma.

He was born January 13, 1939 in Port Huron to the late Al and Gertrude Gofton. He was the sixth of nine children. He married Dolly Petho on June 11, 1960 in St. Christopher Catholic Church, Marysville.

John graduated from Port Huron High School in 1957 and attended junior college. He worked at Mueller Brass for 42 years. John was a scout master at Roosevelt School and a den father. He volunteered at Mid-City Nutrition for almost 18 years. He was an avid fisherman and loved going out in his t-bird boat. He loved hockey and model trains.

He is survived by his wife, Dolly; two children, Steven (Terri) Gofton and Lisa (Kevin) Manns; a grandson, Zachary (Mallory) Manns; adopted grandchildren, Dee (Kristina) Mitchell and Payten Mitchell; two sisters, Patricia Gofton and Pricilla Hicks; a brother, Gary Gofton; and wonderful friends, the Brown family, and April Seavolt and her family. He will be missed beyond any words.

John was preceded in death by a son, Michael Gofton; and two grandchildren, Dakota Gofton and Niko Gofton.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, July 10, 2026 in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 11 a.m. Deacon Dennis Crimmins will officiate.

Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Port Huron.
