An amateur historian, he was a Civil War buff and a Lincoln scholar. After he retired, Dr. Tisdel spent many happy years in Tucson, AZ. He came to love the desert, spending a great deal of time exploring remote areas with his friend Granger Weil. He became an avid gardener, and especially loved it when his visiting grandchildren helped him pick lemons, oranges, tangerines and grapefruit from his carefully cultivated citrus trees.
As anyone he ever met was soon to discover, he was very proud of the achievements of each of his children and grandchildren. He was devoted to his family, his many patients and his profession, and accomplished a great deal during his life.
