Floyd A Kinnee
August 9th, 1925 to April 20th, 2013
Floyd A. Kinnee, Jr., 87 of Fort Gratiot, passed away April 20 at Port Huron Hospital, surrounded by his wife, Annabel, and children. He was born in Port Huron on August 9, 1925, to Floyd and Rose Kinnee. Floyd Kinnee, Jr, known to many as "Blue Eyes," graduated from St. Stephen’s High School in 1943. He served in the US Navy during World War II aboard the U.S.S. McGowan.
Following the war, he married his high school sweetheart Annabel Victoria O’Hare in 1946, started a family and a lifetime as a carpenter. A past secretary of Carpenter Union Local #1067, he retired in 1988. If something could be made from wood, he could make it. He was talented with his hands and not afraid of hard, physical labor.
Early in his career he built residential homes in the Forest Subdivision and the Colonial Village neighborhood, often lifting walls into position on his own back. In the 1960s, Floyd moved to larger commercial projects. Between 1960 and 1990, he worked on the construction of many public structures, such as schools, libraries, factories, and even bridges along I-69. One of his more notable civic projects include the McMorran Auditorium and Arena, where he was Construction Foreman and Superintendent.
Traveling and camping was a favorite pastime of Floyd's, especially when spent with his wife and children. His property along Lake Huron in Delaware Township was one of his favorite places to visit. He traveled to Ireland twice with his wife, Annabel, and made numerous trips to Colorado and Minnesota to visit his sons who lived there.
He was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, in Port Huron. Floyd is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Annabel (O’Hare) Kinnee; sons: Floyd "Sandy" (Gale), Thomas (Carla), Michael (Genevieve), John (Nancy), Richard (Jill), and daughter, Patricia. He left behind several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his youngest son, Stephen Paul, two sisters, Dorothy Siebert and Jane Brinker.
Mass of Resurrection will be 10 am Wednesday, April 24, 2013 in St. Mary Catholic Church, Port Huron. The Rev. Zbigniew Zomerfeld will officiate. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Military honors will be held under auspices of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council.
Visiting hours will be from 2-4 and 7-9 pm Tuesday in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and from 9:30 am Wednesday at the church. A rosary will be recited 7 pm Tuesday evening.
