Wallace Bailey

Wallace J. Bailey, 87 of Port Huron, entered Eternal Life on his birthday, Tuesday, May 28, 2013, surrounded by his family.
He was born on May 28, 1926, in Detroit, to the late Wallace F. and Evelyn Bailey and was raised by his father and loving stepmother Gertrude Bailey. He married Geraldine M. Brines of Port Huron on May 17, 1958 at St. Edward on-the-Lake Catholic Church.
Wallace served his country proudly during WWII and the Korean Conflict in the US Navy where he developed his love for cooking. He was named a Plank Owner of the Everett F. Larson DD830 Destroyer. Wallace was a member of the American Legion Post 8, St Joseph Catholic Church in Port Huron and a Life Time member of the Port Huron Elks Lodge 343.
Wallace is survived by his wife of 55 years, Geraldine M. Bailey. Children, James Bailey of Marshall, MI; Stephen (Elizabeth) Bailey of Port Huron; Kathleen (Thomas) Davis of St. Clair; Patricia Bailey of Port Huron; John (Kelly) Bailey of Port Huron and his beloved grandchildren: Michael and Robert Bailey; Jennifer and Katheryn Bailey; Mark, Sarah, Jason and Thomas Davis; Jacy, Jenna and Jordan Bailey and several nieces and nephews. Wallace is preceded in death by his sister Jane Whims and daughter-in-law Jane E. Bailey.
Wallace was first and foremost a dedicated husband and family man. He and Geri enjoyed taking family vacations camping all over the Great Lakes when they had a growing family and when asked he would tell you that his favorite past time was spending time with his grandchildren.
Mass of Resurrection will be 10 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2013 in Holy Trinity Parish-St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Rev. Brian K. Cokonougher will officiate.
Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery with military honors under the auspices of the United States Navy and St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council.
Visiting hours will be 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. A Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
Memorials in memory of Wallace may be given to St. Joseph Music Chorale or The Elks Major Project Fund for Handicapped Children.
