Deborah Smith

Deborah J Smith, 36, of Marysville joined the Lord after a long battle with illness on Wednesday, Oct 18th, 2006 at home with her family at her side. Debbie was born May 28th, 1970 in Port Huron to J Daniel and Donna K Smith. Debbie served as an acolyte at St Stephens Church while growing up. She was a 1998 graduate of PHHS and received her associate degree from SCCCC. Debbie started her college years at Michigan Tech University in 1988, was a member of the Alpha Sigma Tau Soriety and volunteered for many campus organizations. While at MTU Debbie joined the US Coast Guard Reserve and was able to travel and see much of our country. She was honorably discharged in 1992. Although Debbie's illness weakened her physically, she possessed faith and strength, perseverance and an optimistic attitude that were an inspiration to all who were around her. When she returned from college she enjoyed visiting patients at Marwood Manor and was a very active member of the local Multiple Sclerosis Society and helped to publish a local news letter to members. Debbie's smile and courage helped everyone close her to see that each day of life is a blessing and opportunity to create memories with our loved ones. Debbie is survived by her parents, sisters Stephanie (Smith) Urban of St Clair and Jackie Smith of St Petersburg Fl; her niece Allison and nephew Ethan Urban; grandmothers Dorothy Smith and Althea Loshaw, a very special Aunt Gail Loshaw and numerous loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Debbie was preceded in death by her grandfathers, J Oscar Smith and George Loshaw. Funeral services will be held 11 am Saturday in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. The Rev Sherry Parker of Chesaning United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will follow in the Mt Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Debbie's cousins, Ted Parker, Tim Parker, Steve Smith, Tom Smith, Ricky, Rusty and Randy Lashbrook, Visitation will be 2-4 & 7-9 pm today in the funeral home. A scripture service will be offered by the Rev. Brian K. Cokonougher at 7 pm this evening. Memorials may be given to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
