Thomas Charles Noetzel, Jr., 66, of Fort Gratiot, died on February 27, 2014 surrounded by his family.
He was born on January 24, 1948 to the late Thomas Sr. and Elaine (Chapdelaine) Noetzel in Port Huron, Michigan and was a life-long area resident.
He graduated from Port Huron Catholic High School in 1966 and attended college at both SC4 and Central Michigan University. He was employed and retired from Detroit Edison as a Pipefitter/Plumber.
Tom was a role model to his children and a mentor to many young athletes in the Blue Water Area where he coached both hockey and baseball. He and his wife Deborah enjoyed traveling together on vacations.
Tom took great pride in spending quality time with his grandchildren, attending sporting events and dance recitals. His love and passion for fly-fishing led him to his enjoyment of life on the AuSable River at his cabin, “Henderson’s Lodge”, in Grayling, Michigan.
Tom is survived by his wife of 33 years, Deborah Lynn Noetzel of Fort Gratiot; and his 5 children, Chad (Tracey) Noetzel of Port Huron, Shannon (Chris) Allen of Columbus, Tracey (Marc) Gardner of Concord, NC, Nathan (Theresa) Noetzel of North Street, and Benjamin (Amber) Roth of Suffolk, VA. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Jackson, Chad, Mallory, Ella, Nathan, Morgan, Katherine; one great grandchild, Landon; his two brothers Paul (Nancy) Noetzel of Wolverine and Mark (Liz) Noetzel of Kamuela, Hawaii; his five sisters, Mary (Bernie) Selting of Anacortes, WA, Christine Noetzel (Alan VanderGraaff) of Lexington, Roxanne (Ken) Kowalski of St. Clair, Annette (Jeff) Kremer of Snowmass Village, CO and Susan (Jim Sneddon) Noetzel of Port Huron; several nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2014 in St. Mary Catholic Church, Port Huron. The Reverend Zbigniew Zomerfeld will officiate.
Visiting hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 7, 2014 in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home.
