Lawrence A Mervich
Lawrence Arthur Mervich, 87, of Port Huron, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 11, 2020 with family present at Lakeshore Woods, Fort Gratiot.
He was born November 20, 1932 in Osceola Township to the late Michael Louis Murvich and Emily Hyrkas-Murvich, where he loved spending his childhood years outdoors, growing up in the Laurium-Calumet area. He was a 1951 graduate of Redford Union High School in Redford Township. He then completed Radiology Training at the University of Toledo, graduated from Michigan State University, and attended Macomb County Community College. Larry was a Korean War Veteran, serving the 10th Air Force Cognizant MASH unit. He married Luz “Lucy” Luevanos on January 3, 1959 in Detroit and they celebrated 58 years together until her passing in 2017. He worked and taught X-Ray Tech in the Air Force Reserves and at Henry Ford Hospital, and later chemical material testing at Ford Motor Company.
Larry was very proud to be an Upper Michigan Peninsula “Youper”. He loved fishing, hunting, camping, and playing and coaching hockey, where he passed on his outdoor life passions on to his family. He was a lifetime Detroit Red Wings and Tigers fan.
Larry is survived by his 5 children, sons Michael (Katherine), Lawrence II (Mary), Thomas (Cynthia), Robert (Hollie) and daughter Christine (Joseph) Slauson; 13 grandchildren, Jonathan (Samantha) Slauson, Julie (Matthew) Gordon, Jeannie Kuiper, Jennifer (Jeremy) Holden, Cheryl Mervich, Michael Mervich, Amanda Mervich, Katy (Kaleb) Mormann, Joseph Mervich, Bradley Mervich, Ian Mervich, Allisun Mervich, Claire Mervich; 17 great-grandchildren, Jadeon, Ellie, Riley, Fayth, Cole, Ethan, Hailey, Zachary, Quinten, Lindi, Sydney, Peyton, Brianna, Sophia, August, Heath and Gwendolyn; siblings Daniel Mervich and Susan Murvich; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
