Brigid Ann Parker

Brigid Ann Parker, 81, of Port Huron, passed away peacefully in her daughter, Stacie’s arms surrounded by her granddaughter, Brigid Hinojosa, best friend, Dawn Dunsmore and her daughter’s friend, Stacey Lester on Wednesday, May 22, 2024.

She was born April 2, 1943 in Port Huron to the late Ralph Bodley and Elizabeth Steinborn. She grew up with her brother, Richard Bodley, across from Pine Grove Park in the big yellow house. There were many fun times had by the two of them throughout the years that Brigid would talk about fondly. She graduated from St. Stephens High School in 1962. Brigid met her husband, Martin L. Parker in late 1962 through her cousin, Bob Bodley who had worked at Mueller Brass with him. He instantly fell in love with her red hair and spunk. Their first date was to a Flags game and to Power’s Hamburgers after. Martin said that she loved watching hockey and when the gloves would come off and a fight would break out, she was hooked. They were married six months later on April 20, 1963. They went on to have three children, Martin L. Parker II in 1964, Craig Parker in 1966 and their only daughter, Stacie Parker in 1971.

Brigid was a no-filter, tell it like it is kind of gal. If you could not handle the answer; then do not ask the question. The majority of the time you would get the answer regardless if you asked the question or not. She loved smoking cigarettes, drinking coffee, watching hockey, “The First 48”, “Antiques Roadshow” and “Cream Saver” candies. Her son, Craig, took her to her one and only one Detroit Red Wings game at the Joe Louis Arena. Brigid did not like riding or driving on the expressway, so that was a feat in itself. She loved to get part-time jobs just to prove that she could get any job she tried. She loved animals, especially cats, so there was always a cat in her home.

Brigid is survived by her brother, Richard Bodley; daughter, Stacie Parker; grandchildren, Marcus and Corinna Parker, Craig Schefflebine, and her namesake, Brigid K. Parker Hinojosa. Brigid was adamant that it was mentioned that Brigid was the reason she had hung on for so long after she lost both of her sons and husband within a three-year span. Little Brigid and Big Brigid developed quite the bond, and they will forever have that connection. Little Brigid made sure that her grandma had one last manicure at her salon. So, take note of Brigid’s manicure. She is also survived by her honorary daughter and caretaker, Shannon Lavere (Brigid’s stepmom); honorary son, Fred Hinojosa (Brigid’s dad); and the girls and Alexis B. (Bigfoot) as she lovingly called her caretaker at Angelic Gardens in Lum where she resided for four months and who always had a warm coffee ready for her. She was preceded in death by her son, Craig M. Parker; husband, Martin L. Parker I; and her first-born son, Martin L. Parker II.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, May 30, 2024 in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 31, 2024 in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. Shaun Laurain will officiate.

Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Port Huron.
