Myrtle Lautner
May 14th, 1932 to September 29th, 2013
Myrtle E. Lautner, 81 died on September 29, 2013 in West Palm Beach FL, after a short illness, surrounded by her family.
“Myrt,” as she was affectionately known to her many friends and family, began her life in Minden City, Michigan on May 14, 1932, as one of two daughters born to Adolf and Helen Lemanski. As a child, Myrt loved working beside her dad on the family farm in the Minden City area, which laid the foundation for her life-long love of gardening. She married Roman G, Lautner on January 3, 1956 and spent the early years of marriage watching and waving to Roman as he sailed the Great Lakes for the Interlake Steamship Company. During the winter months, Myrt and Roman tended the ships at their winter berths in Buffalo, New York. The family suspects that it was the memories of spending the winters on the “iron” ships that hastened their departure to the warm winters in Florida after their retirements. They remained at each other’s side until the time of her death.
Myrt led a life of service, both professionally and spiritually. In 1959, she moved to Port Huron to begin to raise her family and start her career. She worked as a Secretary at the S.S. Kresge Store in Port Huron, and later went on to retire after serving 28 years as office manager for the Saint Clair County’s Animal Control Division. Intermingled throughout her professional career, Myrt worked as a sales consultant for Vivian Woodward Cosmetics; served her community for more than 30 years as a Precinct Supervisor for the City of Port Huron’s Election Board, and shared her devotion to her Catholic faith as a parishioner and Eucharistic minister for St. Christopher’s Catholic Church, Marysville, MI, and Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, West Palm Beach, FL. Beautiful, caring, and charitable, Myrt worried about everybody. She moved with boundless energy and her family fondly remembers that they had to run to keep up to her.
Myrt is survived by her husband of 57 years, Roman; her daughters, Ardith (Joe) Hayes of Port Huron MI, Ralene (James) Carmody of Wyoming MI; her sons, Mark (Leisa) Lautner, Wake Forest, NC, and Paul (Cindy) Lautner of New Ipswich, NH; her sister Edna Allen, sister-in-laws Margaret Schock, Doris (Ross) Deo, and brother-in-law Clarence (Dorothy) Lautner. Twelve grandchildren; grandsons Dann, Scott and James Hayes; Rory and Colin Carmody and Garrett Lautner; granddaughters, Dr. Julie (Bud) Cicorachi and Madison, Mckenzie, Caitlyn, Shelby and Brier Lautner; nine great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Myrt’s life was enriched by so many friends, but she will be greatly missed by dear friend Lynn Bowman, and her cherished Florida friends Susan Monti & Barbara Sinclair.
Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday, October 4, 2013 in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home, Port Huron, MI with a rosary being recited at 7 p.m. A viewing will also take place at 9 am just prior to the Mass of Resurrection, which will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 5, 2013 in St. Christopher’s Catholic Church in Marysville MI. Father Art Baranowski will officiate. Myrt’s six grandsons will serve as pallbearers, and burial will take place at 2pm in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Minden Township, MI.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Palm Beach County, FL, or to Blue Water Hospice Home, Marysville, MI.
