Eugene F. (Gene) Mancini
May 27th, 1928 to January 13th, 2015
Eugene F. (Gene) Mancini, 86, of Port Huron Township, passed away peacefully after a short illness on Tuesday, January 13, 2015, with his family by his side.
He was born May 27, 1928 in Detroit to the late Frederico and Rose Mancini. He was raised by his mother and stepfather, Giovanni Valente, after the early and unexpected death of his father. He married the true love of his life, Louise R. Crespi on October 10, 1953 and enjoyed the next 56 years of companionship with her. She preceded him in death on August 2, 2009.
Gene graduated from Cass Tech High School in 1945. He served his country as a Corporal in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1951, during the Korean Conflict. He worked and retired as a supervisor for Acheson Colloids.
He loved playing cards with his family and friends and woodworking, taking pride in the many beautiful ducks he carved for family and friends over the years. He also enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, and was member of the Blue Water Sportsman’s Club for many years.
Left to cherish his memory are son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Cyndy Mancini, son, Richard Mancini and daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and John Mackey; grandchildren, Michael, Nicole, Kaitlyn and Kyle Mancini, and Danielle, John and Jenna Mackey; brothers, Joe (Jo) and Bob Mancini (and families); brother-in-law, Harry Crespi; sister-in-law, Roselyn Crespi; and godchild, Fred Mancini, who held a special place in his heart and always brought a smile to his face. In addition to his loving wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his infant son and daughter-in-law, Meg Mancini.
Funeral Mass will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Holy Trinity Parish - St. Stephen Catholic Church. Rev. Jeff Allan will officiate.
Burial will follow in Mt Hope Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the United States Army and the Veteran’s Honor Guard Alliance. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, January 16 in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and from 11:30 a.m. Saturday until the service time at the church. A Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Friday, in the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Parish - St. Stephen Catholic Church or the Disabled American Veterans.
