James Bernard McDonald, III
October 19th, 1943 to August 19th, 2015
James Bernard McDonald, III, 71, of Port Huron, died Wednesday, August 19, 2015.
Jim was born on October 19, 1943 in Detroit, Michigan to the late James and Yvonne (LaVanway) McDonald. His father was the proud owner of McDonald Meats, located in Eastern Market, and his mother was an active socialite.
Young James graduated from Catholic Central High School and went on to attend University of Detroit. He pursued his career in banking, beginning at the Federal Reserve Bank in Detroit, and retiring from (Michigan National) Standard Federal Bank. After retirement, he went on to pursue a career in Real Estate, and had fun “tinkering” in his new venture, where he made many new friends.
Jim had many passions. He was an avid reader and always had a thirst for more knowledge. He was an extreme history buff, finding trains, ships and war stories especially captivating. He was a collector of many things, and particularly loved model trains, books and model ships. Jim felt strongly that one should give back to the community, and was Past Commander and current Treasurer of the Port Huron Sail and Power Squadron, a Board Member of Goodwill Industries and Port Huron Museum of Arts and History, and a member of the Port Huron Zoning Board of Appeals.
Jim is survived by his loving wife Sue, with whom he celebrated almost 29 years of marriage. He is also survived by his daughters Sheila Szczepanski of Frankenmuth; Lisa (Kevin) Kimes of Ludington; Allison McDonald of Port Huron; and Emily McDonald of Port Huron. His loving grandchildren include Nicholas, Joshua, and Daniel Szczepanski and Chloe, Olivia, and Jackson Kimes.
