Daniel L Scallion

Daniel Leonard “Dan” Scallion, 74, of Fort Gratiot, passed away surrounded by his loved ones on Tuesday, April 21, 2026 after a long illness.

He was born April 2, 1952 in Detroit to the late Francis and Vera Scallion. He married Mary Schmitt on September 5, 1979 in Utica, Michigan.

Dan was employed as a Registered Nurse for over 25 years prior to his retirement in 2010. Dan and Mary enjoyed traveling and being volunteer lighthouse keepers at several lighthouses throughout Michigan. They also enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers play at 13 different major league ballparks. Dan was a man of strong faith and devotion to his Catholic religion as well as a member of Holy Trinity Parish. He was an ardent environmentalist who has requested and will be given a green burial.

He is survived by his wife of, Mary; three sons, Edmund, Christopher (Melanie) and Nicholas Scallion; three granddaughters, Isabella, Sophia and Kriya; siblings, Patty “Walnut”, Veronica “Wingnut”, Lucy “Butternut”, Regina “Grapenut” and Carmella “Locknut”; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and coworkers. He was preceded in death by his good friend and brother-in-law, Kenneth Hamilton.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 23, 2026 in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. A Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 24, 2026 in Holy Trinity Parish St. Joseph Catholic Church with visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m. The Reverend Bradley Forintos will officiate.

Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2026 at The Preserve at All Saints Cemetery in Waterford, Michigan.
